Pamela Crawford’s Story
Female Champion, Age 40+
I promised myself that in my fiftieth year, I would be in the best shape of my life, and feel better than I did in my thirties. I had gained weight due to stress eating and lack of sleep in the few months before the Challenge. I was tired, lacked energy, and my blood pressure was rising, despite being on medication.
I turned 50 in the summer, so I needed to make some big changes during this Challenge. This wasn't my first Challenge, but it was the first one that I started with this much motivation. To inspire myself, I turned, once again, to Champions Body-for-LIFE and BFL for Women. I was excited about the new online journal and downloaded a restaurant app when eating out to make healthier choices.
I devoted my lunch hour to my workouts and kept a case of Myoplex® shakes in my office for my post-workout protein. My daily goal was to wake up each morning with some amount of soreness in my muscles. If I didn't feel sore, that was my cue to increase the weight or switch my exercises. During some workouts, counting to 12 took forever. It was on those days I realized my workouts were most effective and rewarding. I changed my eating habits by adding more protein, fiber, and switching to healthier alternatives, like low fat cottage cheese with fresh strawberries rather than strawberry ice cream.
There were weeks when the weight loss was less than desirable, or even non-existent, but in retrospect, the 12 weeks flew by and I got results! I dropped two sizes, lost pounds and inches all around, improved my blood pressure measurements, and reduced my body fat by 10%. Body-for-LIFE is not terribly difficult and it certainly works for me!
